Architarium Commends Passage of Texas House Bill 1404
Legislation Allows Churches More Freedom to Create Structures for Cremated Remains
Austin, TX (May XX, 2009) – Architarium, a US columbarium manufacturing business, today
commends state legislators for the passage of Texas House Bill 1404, allowing more flexibility
in the establishment and use of columbarium structures by churches in Texas. Legislators
confirmed cremated remains are no health risk to the community.
A columbarium is a structure where cremated remains are housed in urns. Previously these
memorials were required to be in cemeteries or be attached to churches, unless a special request
was granted.
“This is a great opportunity for churches to serve their membership by providing a permanent
resting place anywhere on the grounds of their places of worship,” said Paul Pinigis, COO of
Architarium. “Memorial gardens with a columbarium are becoming increasingly popular on
church grounds, as people look for the most meaningful final resting spot for themselves and
their families.
The legislation, HB 1404, was introduced by Representative Robert Miklos (D)-Mesquite, and
was passed in the Texas House of Representatives on April 6, 2009. The bill passed the Texas
Senate Health and Human Services committee on May 8.
