When is a freestanding columbarium appropriate?
Of course, all columbaria hold urns with cremated remains. Freestanding columbariums are used 1) when the client wants a turnkey columbarium and/or 2) when the client isn't trying to integrate the columbarium into an existing architecture. Architarium uses its state-of-the-art columbarium niche system as the core of the freestanding columbarium and provides a granite slab exterior.

What freestanding columbarium styles are available?
Architarium offers three stock stand-alone columbarium styles: The Rectangle, The Tower, and The Octagon. While we offer stock sizes for each style, custom sizes are available.

What is the purpose of a peaked cap?

A peaked cap, as shown in the photo to the right, can serve several purposes. It can increase the visual height of the columbarium, enhance its appearance and discourage all kinds of critters from sitting on the top. It also allows snow to disburse, reducing weight on the columbarium structure.

The peaked cap is made of granite slab, supported by a stainless steel frame.

What materials does the columbarium use?
Architarium’s columbaria are made of 100% stainless steel and first quality granite.
The columbarium exterior uses thicker granite than the face plates.
It is possible to use a second granite color for contrast.

How is the columbarium constructed?
It uses Architarium's stainless steel columbarium niche system.

How is the top cap constructed?
There are two kinds of caps: the one that finishes the top of your freestanding columbarium and the ones on the sides.
The default top cap and side cap thickness is 1.25".
A thicker top cap can be requested.
A thicker top cap is purely aesthetic (i.e. it serves no structural purpose) .
A thicker top cap costs more to manufacture, ship and install than a 1.25" top cap.

What additional architectural options are available?
Architarium offers several options to add interest to your freestanding columbarium. These architectural accents will withstand exterior elements.
Engraving: The granite can be engraved with a given shape and paint-filled.
Frieze: A piece of granite can be cut into a given shape and applied to the granite columbarium exterior.
Intarsia: A piece of granite can be cut into a given shape and set into the granite columbarium exterior.
All of these methods require simple, closed-path vector art which either Architarium or you can supply.

How is the freestanding columbarium installed?
Architarium's columbarium system is engineered to be fast and affordable to install.
The freestanding columbarium arrives in limited pre-assembled sections.
Your contractor will create the concrete slab at the cemetery site using Architarium's written instructions.
Installation requires no heavy equipment or special tools which can cost your project and impact your memorial garden.
The installation is quick which translates to reduced labor costs.
The freestanding columbarium can be relocated at a later date with minimal expenditure.

What columbarium size and niche size are best?
Our freestanding columbarium is available in a variety of sizes, both niche size and overall size, to suit your needs.
Start by determining how many inurnment spaces you want to offer.
Then determine if you want to offer double inurnment. This will affect your niche size. For example, while we offer an urn that will fit into an 8x8x12 inch niche, this urn does not have a standard shape, size or material thickness. In other words, the advantage of a larger niche is that you won't have to inventory urns and families will have a choice of urns.
Finally, determine how much land you have available and the shape of the space. This may determine which styles of columbarium you can consider. Also consider how tall you want the columbarium to be. For example, by using a taller columbarium, you can use larger niches in a smaller space.
